Medicaid application backlog has grown significantly, with over 210,000 pending applications. This information was shared by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission during recent stakeholder meetings.

The commission provided data on application timeliness, which shows a decline in processing efficiency. Previously, the state was able to process more than 90% of Medicaid applications within the federal standard of 45 days.
